HiPEAC Conference 2020: EXDCI-2 highlights from the next Strategic Research Agenda

Thursday, February 13, 2020

The HiPEAC conference is the premier European forum for experts in computer architecture, programming models, compilers and operating systems for embedded and general-purpose systems.

The HiPEAC 2020 conference took place in Bologna, Italy. The EXDCI-2 project, with ETP4HPC presented the highlights of the fourth Strategic and Research Agenda (SRA) that paves the way for the main directions to be taken in HPC Research and Innovation projects for the timeframe 2021-2024.

Jean-François Lavignon pointed out the evolution of the HPC ecosystem beyond Exascale that is the Transcontinuum Computing as the major trend for next years, driven by the increasing interplay between Simulation, AI, IoT and Data Analytics. This leads to a revolution in HPC use case generic model, of which the AQMO project prototype is a European example.

The SRA is a key tool to prepare this revolution and has been prepared with the contribution of more than 80 experts from the EU HPC ecosystem under the direction of ETP4HPC thanks to the EXDCI-2 project. This core document of the EU HPC strategy is structured into research clusters and research domains, that are linked with each other – and so interconnect the technological blocks the EU has to develop.
